The Edelrid Shield Softshell Climbing Helmet uses In-Mold construction, an expanded polystyrene core fused to a polycarbonate shell. That combination absorbs impact well at low weight. That is what you want on long routes where a heavy lid gets left behind.

Features and Benefits

The In-Mold shell does two jobs at once. The EPS core takes the energy out of a falling stone. The polycarbonate outer resists the knocks and scrapes that come from the wall itself.

Additionally, it is impact tested to EN 12492 on the side, front and back, not only on the crown. It also carries UIAA 106 certification, a stricter voluntary standard than the EN requirement alone.

Beyond protection, the fit system earns its name. The Wing Fit closure with a rear adjustment dial adapts to different head shapes, the chin strap buckle sits under the ear rather than on the jaw, and the interior padding is removable and washable.
