Kong Oka Canyoning Descender

The Kong Oka Canyoning Descender is built for wet rope work, where a device has to stay predictable with water running over it. Kong developed it with rescue technicians, so it handles progression on rope as well as recovery and rescue situations that defeat simpler devices.

Features and Benefits

The multiple braking positions are what set it apart. You can add or shed friction as the rope diameter, the load and the water change. There is no need to commit to one setting at the top of the drop.

Additionally, it accepts rope from 7.8 mm up to 12.7 mm. That covers thin canyoning lines and the fatter static ropes used for rigging and rescue. The aluminium alloy body keeps the weight down for a device of this size at 141 mm long.

Beyond descent, the Oka is designed for emergency, recovery and rescue work. It is certified to EN 15151-2 and ships with two spare rubber parts. So the first sign of wear does not take the device out of service. Kong suggests pairing it with the Large Multiuse Auto Block connector.

Product-Specific Use Cases

Take Kong Oka Canyoning Descender into the Hajar wadis, where canyon descents mix dry rock with pools and the rope rarely stays dry from top to bottom. It also earns its place in a rescue kit for Dibba and the Ras Al Khaimah mountain tracks. A team may need to lower someone over broken ground there.
