Silva Free 1200 XS LED Headlamp

Silva Free 1200 XS LED Headlamp

The Silva Free 1200 XS LED Headlamp is the same 1200 lumen unit as the S, on the smaller 14.4 Wh battery. It saves 33 g on the head and costs you runtime, which is the right trade if your nights out are measured in hours rather than half-nights.

Features and Benefits

The XS battery weighs 116 g against the S battery's 149 g. Full system weight comes to 230 g with the battery fitted, and it charges over USB-C in about 3 hours with the cable in the box.

Additionally, runtime tracks the smaller cell. Max holds 1200 lm for 1 to 2 hours, med gives 500 lm for 2.5 to 5 hours, and min stretches 80 lm to 15 hours. Reach is unchanged at 150 m (492 ft), 100 m (328 ft) and 45 m (148 ft), because the lamp unit is identical.

Beyond that, the cable runs inside the headband rather than down your neck, and the lamp, battery and mount all detach so the unit can move to a helmet or handlebar. Airflow cooling keeps light quality steady when convection is not helping, a red safety light faces backwards, and lamp and battery both meet IPX5. The Free series took an ISPO Award in 2023.

Product-Specific Use Cases

This is the setup for a one to two hour session at pace, which covers most Hatta and Wadi Shawka loops and a Showka out-and-back. If you are racing and counting grams, the weight sitting on your forehead matters more than a battery reserve you will never reach. Carry a second XS battery for anything longer.
