Trip details

Description

The Jebel Yanas Hike is an 8 km out-and-back route with 240 m of elevation gain on Jebel Yanas in Ras Al Khaimah, graded Beginner Plus. It starts at the high point of the mountain and heads down to one of its old stone villages and back, with views over Wadi Naqab and out to the Gulf. You may also see it spelled Yanis or Yunis.

Trail Highlights

  • Good for: newer hikers with basic fitness who want a step up
  • Best season: October to April
  • Views down into the Wadi Naqab gorge
  • The old stone villages of Azabat and Sal, with abandoned terraced fields
  • Views towards the Sheri and Baqal areas and Naqab Dam
  • Ras Al Khaimah city and the Gulf on the horizon

What to Expect

The hike starts at the Jebel Yanas high point, reached by a mountain track, so you begin at the top rather than climbing to it. From there the route follows the edge above Wadi Naqab and drops to the village, with the views opening over the gorge.

Parts of the edge are exposed and the rock is loose in places, so steady footing matters. The climb comes on the way back up to the high point. The Jebel Yanas Loop Hike covers the same mountain but drops into the gorge, which makes it longer and harder.
